How to choose the right mount for your plasma or LCD TV step by step guide
So you’ve taken delivery of that plasma or LCD TV and can’t wait to have it mounted on your wall or from your ceiling. Below are the key steps to ensure you choose the best option to mount your display, properly installed to maximise your enjoyment of your new display. Note, this serves as a guide only and Atdec recommends you seek professional advice before installing if you are not familiar with mount and wall configurations.
Deciding where in the room to mount your screen depends on the desired functionality and how much flexibility you want from the viewing angles. Mounting the plasma or LCD TV to the wall or ceiling frees the display from a room’s restricted space and opens up a new world in getting the best out of your large screen display. Atdec offers the right mount for any desired setting, allowing you to position your screen in the most prominent position. Properly mounted, the display will instantly brighten up the look and feel of your room and is certain to impress your guests!

Step 1: Which one are you?
Wall Mounts
If you decide to mount the plasma or LCD TV to the wall, the Atdec Telehook range has a comprehensive range of mounting solutions no matter where you chose to position your screen.
Atdec’s Wall Fixed range comes in silver or black and with its sleek design, allows the display to be installed on the wall as close as 1”.
For those who want to mount the screen at a greater than normal height, the Atdec Wall mount range offers the Wall Tilt option. This mount allows the screen to be tilted up to 15 degrees in an upward or downward direction.
If you are looking for more flexibility in non-fixed and flexible viewing angles for your screen, you should look at the Wall Articulated Multi. This highly versatile three-products-in-one option allows movement of the screen from left to right up to 180 degrees and to adjust the tilt up to 20 degrees depending on the model. Using the Wall Articulated Wall Arm allows the screen to be extended out or folded back providing additional flexibility. The Wall Articulated range is designed to carry medium to large sized monitors.
Ideal for large displays and in commercial environments, Atdec’s Wall Rotating mount allows you to change the orientation of the screen from portrait to landscape and vice versa in one easy movement. It also allows you to adjust the tilt 20 degrees.
The Wall Swing Arm is the ideal mount when looking for maximum pan.

Ceiling Mounts
If you wish to maximise even more space, out-of-reach safety, and maximum visibility you should look upwards to Atdec’s Ceiling mounts. Ideal for retail, entertainment, sport venues, or mass public spaces, the Ceiling mounts accommodate even the larger and heavier displays. The Ceiling Tilt model features a telescopic pole which allows an adjustable distance from the ceiling to the centre of the display. These ceiling mounts allow an impressive 360 degrees pan adjustment with a tilt of 20 degrees facing downwards. In addition, the Ceiling Tilt has the option of mounting two displays back to back! This option gives you the flexibility of mounting the screen in the centre of the room or venue. All these simple yet elegant mounts have a theft resistant design and suit VESA or non-VESA compliant displays.

Step 2: Check whether locating a stud is necessary
Having found the prominent spot to mount your display, always check to make sure whether it needs to be mounted on a wall stud. Studs are vertical beams usually made of steel or timber within the wall. Often, walls with studs are non structural walls or do not carry a huge amount of load. The studs support the mounts on the wall structure. It is highly recommended that you seek professional advice to ascertain whether it’s necessary to attach the mount to the wall stud or not, to obtain maximum strength and stability in installation. This will ensure that the wall load carrying capacity can handle the overall weight of the mount and the display.
Step3: Check location of power source & antenna connection point
Always check the location of the power source and antenna connections before deciding where to mount your display. Make sure you have enough cable length for power cables, antenna and other input devices to reach the display. Ensuring you are not too far away from these connection sources will also help in managing cables and expanding your input connections in the future.
Step 4: Is your plasma or LCD TV VESA compliant? What are the mounting hole patterns?
To ensure that Atdec’s mounts are compatible with major manufacturers of plasma and LCD TVs, the company uses the VESA Mounting Interface Standard for the screw hole mounting patterns on the back of the display.
VESA is the organisation that created the mounting interface standard. A VESA mounting pattern comprises of a set of 4 screw holes at the back the display panel starting from a 75mm × 75mm square pattern for small displays and expanding to a mix of 100mm x 100mm pattern, or 300mm x 200mm rectangular pattern and so on, to accommodate increasingly larger sized screens. Check behind your display to see if it is VESA compatible.
VESA Compliant patterns
There are also other mounts that do not fall within the VESA mounting pattern. Atdec’s TELEHOOK Range of wall and ceiling mounts can accommodate non-VESA compliant patterns. Again, it is recommended you check the back of your display to see if it conforms to the VESA standard or not. Mounting hole pattern and display weight information can be also found in the User Manual that comes with your screen:

Step 5: How heavy is your TV?
With so many display brands available, determining the right mount to carry your display is always a function of display weight. Often customers try to determine the mount by the screen size. Atdec recommends using the screen size as an initial guide. However, ensuring the correct weight limit should be the main guide when choosing the mount. The weight of your display gives a more accurate measure as to whether the mount can carry the display securely. Check the weight of your TV without the stand and check the Atdec specifications to determine a correct choice.
Step 6: What do I do with the cables?
Finally, having taken delivery of your plasma or LCD TV and mount and having decided where to install it, now it’s just a matter of waiting to be connected. You have a whole range of inputs devices such as multimedia servers, computer, digital display devices, set top boxes, DVRs, DVD players, game consoles, the list goes on and so do those unsightly cables.
Atdec’s TELEHOOK Cable Manager and Shelf System is the ideal solution for hiding and managing the cables. It comes in a neutral silver colour to match any décor and sports a sturdy yet elegant aluminium construction. The Cable Manager provides a simple and elegant solution for concealing messy cables. It is designed to be mounted underneath the display and stylishly forms a 1 piece integrated setup. In addition, optional shelves can be installed on the Cable Manager allowing you to display your devices along the wall.
