There are three basic types of TV mounts; wall, desk and ceiling. Each has a particular application and comes in a range of
styles with different levels of adjustment. It’s well worth considering all
your options when investigating a TV mount, because you can create space,
protect your TV and improve your viewing experience, all at the same time!
Wall mounts
Wall mounts are extremely versatile. They allow for flexible for placement,
positional orientation and adjustment. They can free up room space while
putting the TV in a safe location out of range of impacts and accidental bumps.
Proper selection and installation can improve the TV picture, particularly if
you have a new generation HD or 3D screen. Some wall mounts also provide
locking, to help prevent theft.
Ceiling mounts
Ceiling mounts are popular in situations where there is a lack of
wall space or the walls are unsuitable (i.e. glass or non-structural). They are
also a good solution for situations where the viewing position is at a distance
or needs to adjust (e.g. an open plan office, retail environment or living
area. Ceiling mounts require correct height placement and tilt setting for best
performance.
Desk mounts
Desk mounts are do-everything solutions for any space,
particularly in areas where space really matters, like kitchens, bathrooms and
breakfast nooks. Desk mounts come in a large range of fixed, swing out, and/or
lift up versions.
Selecting the right mount…
The main criteria for selecting a mount are:
Load capacity: You need a mount which can accept the size and weight of
your TV. Some versions (particularly those with spring or gas-lift operation)
have a minimum as well as a maximum load capacity.
Mounting pattern: The “mounting
pattern” is the screw hole layout on the back of the screen which is used to
attach the TV to the mount. Most use an International VESA standard which is a
metric measurement based on the height and width between the holes.
Adjustment Capabilities: Different mount types (Fixed, Tilt, Full Motion, Pole and
extendable Arm styles), all have different adjustment capabilities.
Wall Offset: If mounting on a wall
do you want something that is low profile or ultra-low profile for a sleek and
flush finish. Alternatively, do you need a mount which allows a lot of screen
position &/or tilt adjustment?
Screen size: The ideal wall mount is all but invisible. Its dimensions
should be less than those of the TV.
Quality:
Please, please, please do not buy “No
name” mounts. Your TV is too expensive to risk an accident and the ideal
solution is both flexible and durable. The best industry standard mounts are
easy to install, easy to use and much better quality.
