Drywall or plasterboard material can be a major
issue for some mounting solutions; particularly those that require a high
degree of positional adjustment or attachment of large and/or heavy displays.
The problem is the weight, and pulling force placed on the surface.
The
facts about dry wall mountings…
Properly mounted, drywalls can manage all but
the heaviest displays. They have excellent vertical strength so provided the
weight is held close to the wall and distributed across the surface, mounting
is fine.
The main issues are:
• Some drywall structures simply aren’t designed
to take any weight. Temporary partitions and other lightweight structures often
have soft surfaces which have difficulty holding anything more than a pin
board. They can also be pulled over if something is hooked or bolted into them.
• Do you work with a touch screen or POS product? Do you require
adjustable tension control so you can adjust the position / orientation then
fix the mount in place for screen operation.
• Do you have any special usage
requirements; pan or 'pole rotation' so you can share information, extended
elevation for operation in a standing position, lowered for a wheelchair,
extended and tilted up for tablet operation?
• Is the screen being mounted in a
public area? Do you need security and/ or constrained user adjustment?
• Do you need adjustable rotation for
selectable landscape / portrait orientation?
Selection tips for desk mounts
When you’re mounting valuable equipment, the two best practice
tips are:
1.
Choose top quality, industry
standard mounts. Look for a company with a good
history in providing quality mounting solutions. They should provide a
reasonable range and provide a solid warranty.
2.
Research and ask the manufacturer
about your specific needs. A flexible
and ergonomic mounting solution should improve a work or home environment while
assisting productivity. It should suit your immediate needs, be flexible and
durable for the longer term
